A Igreja na América Latina e no Caribe: do Rio a Aparecida

Resumo

Resumo: A Conferência de Aparecida é uma privilegiada oportunidade para
uma reflexão sobre o modo de ser da Igreja na América Latina e no Caribe.
Segue, assim, a tradição das conferências gerais já realizadas pelo episcopado
latino-americano e caribenho. Mas se naquelas, sobretudo em Medellín e
Puebla, os bispos esforçaram-se por traçar um modelo de Igreja coerente com
a realidade sócio-religiosa dos nossos povos, tal esforço não é tão evidente no
Documento de Participação da Conferência de Aparecida. Por isso, faz-se mister
retornar a Medellín para se chegar a Aparecida. E ali recuperar a perspicácia e
a profecia na leitura dos sinais dos tempos, a capacidade de inserção e atuação
no meio social, a coragem evangélica de fazer opões a favor da vida dos mais
desfavorecidos. Tal é a exigência do discipulado de Cristo em nossas terras. E
daí emerge a compreensão do modo de ser Igreja em nosso Continente,
recuperando o espírito do Concílio Vaticano II numa re-projeção da Igreja Povo
de Deus, missionária, ecumênica, mística ... “para que nossos povos tenham
vida”.

Abstract: The Conference in Aparecida presents a privileged opportunity to raise
some thoughts for a few considerations about the type of Church in Latin America
and the Caribbean. In this endeavor it follows the tradition of the general
conferences that have been held by the Latin American and Caribbean bishops.
However, in these and specially in those of Medellin and Puebla, the bishops
were engaged in portraying the model of the Church that is coherent with the
socio-religious situation of our peoples, which does not appear clearly enough in
the Document of Participation in the Conference in Aparecida. Therefore what is
needed right away is to return to Medellin in order to go from there to Aparecida.
What is to be done is to recover the insight and prophetic intuition by discovering
the signs of the times as well as the capacity of insertion and social action, and the
courage to engage in pastoral activity on behalf of those in need. This is an
imperative implied in the following of Christ in our local sphere. From this point of
view will emerge the image of the Church on our Continent and it will bring into
focus the spirit of the II Vatican Council by “projecting” far beyond our horizon the
image of the Church as the People of God, missionary, ecumenical, and mystical
“so that our peoples will have life”.
